What is MudBox: MudBox is a 3D design software. It has the look and feeling of sculpting clay. It's one of many ways to create or sculpt a virtual model on your PC or Mac screen. Complex models require a very fast computer. Pricing is 30 free demo, or $10.00 USD a month, or one-time $500.00 USD purchase. There might be a cloud-streaming version.

* XYZ Axis: Three directions, represented by Red Green Blue colors. Z means vertical or, up and down. X follows the ground, pointing East. Y follows the ground, pointing true North. The three lines meet at 0 which means your center Origin. An object rotates around the axis of your choosing.

* Learning Curve: zBrush is a far more complex, feature-filled software. Mudbox is much easier to pick up and sculpt, slightly more traditional.

* MudBox has close integration with other Autodesk applications.

* MudBox has a small community, whereas zBrush has an immense army of users and content.
.
* Creating New Mesh Topology: ZBrush uses ZRemesher while Mudbox calls its function Retopologize. This can optimize your sculpt geometry, lowering polygons.

* Map Baking: A final step in a sculpt. The calculation of normal or displacement maps.
.
* Verdict: RoyceBarber.com gives both apps a joyous 9 out of 10. Starting out, use MudBox and optionally graduate to zBrush.
