Specs for The Orange Ship
.
* This ship is a 100% organic, genetically modified fruit, taking 1 year to grow in a hydroponics field. Does not require any alterations to fly. Man-made escape pod is inserted into the ship in case of emergency.
* This ship is single usage. It burns out after 24 hours of usage. Travel creates a burnt, hard heat-resistant shell.
* Propulsion is the back of the ship igniting/burning, like rocket fuel. Landing requires letting the ship burn out (24 hours), a body of water to fall into, and for the front of the ship to ignite (aka reverse-booster) to stop acceleration. Landing can occur without water, but is dangerous, using front-boosters to hover. Landing is messy and crew can board the escape ship which floats.
* Orange ship is 5,000 Square Feet by 5,000 Square Feet (Small Warehouse Size).
* Ship has no warp drive, but it's escape pod does.
* Non-Organic Metal Escape pod is shaped like a tooth pick, with a central hinge, so it can fold into a “V” shape. Normal mode is V shape, and when it activates warp mode, it makes a small portal “black hole” and must fold out straight like a toothpick to fit inside the portal. During warp transportation, ship is badly damaged and is destroyed 2% of the time.
* Normally the orange ship has no warp travel, but in rare situations, the escape ship can be destroyed, opening a portal big enough for the orange ship, 15% of the time.
* Ship is stocked with 1 year of support and food, for 20 people. Optional additional food is in the heart of the ship, obviously being modified orange peel, which isn't very appetizing.
* Ship contains 100 seeds, each 1 foot by 1 foot, for planting new ships, if in good soil. Escape pods are metallic and cannot be grown. There is an organic escape pod project in early stages that is highly dangerous.
* Escape pods are generally experimental, each including unique new features and dangers.
* Goal of novel is to promote Biblical truths, Christian Outreach, explore space, dimensions, oceans, planets, prevent human disasters, promote open source programming (Ubuntu Linux), and for the characters to develop a far better orange ship and way of life.
* Crew of the orange ship are Christians escaping end-of-the-world imprisonment, on/around a future Earth that has grown many times larger and requires high-speed travel.
* Escape pod is generally powered by coiled springs, pushing an electric generator, propelling ions into the air, using a NASA Ion Engine. Alternative pod power includes launching micro-springs into space, pushing the ship, and the springs immediately decompose into a dust trail.
